Maulbronn is one of the best preserved closter in Europe, build by the Cistercian order.
This corridor leads to the “Paradise”, the narthex of the church, built in the first half of the 13th century by a Burgundian architect whose name is unknown, but is usually styled as the “Master of the Paradise”.
On the left the corridor provide also a direct access from outside to the cellarium, where was stored food; it is today a lapidarium, where are stored stones (present use is probably less tasty than the past one, I suppose)
Behind, another door gives access to the cloister, whose each aisle has been build at a different period: around 1230 for the South (same team as the “Paradise”), around 1300 for the West, 1350 for the North and East.
