The statue of Mary is supposed to watch the plain of Alsace from the top of the Kleiner Belchen, but there is often clouds which obstruct the view: sounds like an interesting symbolism isn’t it?
Following its style, the statue is probably late 19th-early 20th century (like most of those statues, chapel and cross you find in the countryside and a lot of small villages churches) but I haven’t found so far the exact date. The ugly guardrail around it is a recent addition and the reason of its existence remains obscure as the statue is already out of reach (and thus of accidental damages) and if someone wants to deteriorate it, that guardrail will not deter him anyway…another example of the usual waste of money and concreting of landscapes.
